Chapter Sixteen

Vaughn

I walked out into the club's main room with Aina by my side. My brain was scrambling. What the hell just happened? I scrubbed my hand up over my face.

“How about we leave the club and go somewhere quiet to talk? Either your place or mine?” Aina asked.

My eyes widened. “Oh shit, Decker,” I gasped. I wasn’t meant to be here this long. He was currently with Anghus, Bacchus, and Joachim, but it was late, and I had promised to be home not long after my shift. Guilt washed over me, and I growled. I was so caught up in my own dick to think about my son.

“Vaughn, stop, talk to me,” Aina said, drawing my attention.

“My son. Decker. I mean, he’s not my biological son. But I adopted him. I promised I’d be home before now but got obviously sidetracked.”

“Okay, do you have a phone? Do you want to ring him?”

I nodded my head and lifted my phone from my pocket. I quickly pulled up my contacts and pressed Anghus’s number.

“Hey, big man, Miles sent me a text about what happened. Take your time; Decker is going to stay the night here.”

I breathed out a sigh of relief. “Thank you, Anghus. I’m sorry. I promise to make it up to you.”

“Mate, don’t stress. You found your mate. That is meant to be a time of celebration.”

“Yeah, I guess so.”

“Vaughn? Don’t you want to be mated?”

“Yeah, I do, but I’m stressed. What about Decker and stuff.”

“Nothing has to change there. Take your mate back to your place or hers and chat with her. Work out what the two of you want. Put everything on the table. Don’t hold back. Tell her what you want and allow her to tell you what she wants. And then talk out what is best for the both of you.”

“Okay, I can do that,” I said, breathing a sigh of relief. Anghus was the voice of reason that I needed. I ended the call and turned back to Aina, who was watching me with concern. “Anghus is going to look after Decker for the night. He said to go back to my place or yours and talk everything through.”

Aina nodded her head. “It’s good advice. Would you feel more comfortable at your home?”

I rubbed at the back of my neck as I thought about how I would feel having Aina in my space. I nodded my head. “Yeah, I think that would be better.”

“Sure thing. I’ll follow you in my car if that is okay because I’ll need my car for work tomorrow.”

“Okay, yeah, sure,” I said before turning and starting to walk out of the club's main room. I stopped and turned back, holding my hand out for Aina, who smiled at me. She was beautiful; there was no doubt about it. She slipped her hand into mine, and I felt goosebumps all over my body. She was my mate. I never expected to find my mate.

“You don’t have to hold my hand if you’re uncomfortable,” she said.
